Society of Decorative Painters Mission
The mission of the Society is to stimulate worldwide interest in and appreciation for decorative painting; to recognize the diversity of and excellence in the art form; and to serve as the resource center for all aspects of decorative painting.

Chapter Profile

Tole and Decorative Painting
as defined by the Society of Decorative Painters . . .

Decorative painting is a diverse art form utilizing a variety of techniques and media to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces.

Contemporary decorative painting is a teachable art form because of the systematic method that is employed. The use of either predrawn or freehand designs allows a high degree of success without academic training or inherent drawing ability. Approached with creativity, discipline and craftsmanship, contempory decorative painting offers opportunities for artistic self-expression and creative satisfaction.

Tole painting is the general term historically used to describe decorative painting on tin surfaces, but today we paint on any surface including wood, glass, fabric, and tin.
