Join SDP’s Treasure Boxes for Kids

This program brings joy to young hospital patients and 

makes the world more aware of decorative painting.

This caring endeavor was created in early 2006 by “Ladybug” Jan McCraw and shortly thereafter became an official SDP program called Treasure Boxes for Kids.

Object of the program is to create hand painted (or brightly decorate using stickers) “treasure boxes” for boys and girls who are receiving free pediatric specialty care at Shriners Hospitals for Children. These young patients are given small gifts to divert their attention from their pain. Treasure Boxes are containers the youngsters can use to store their toys. 

All members are invited to join in the fun and help this worthy cause. The process is simple. Treasure boxes should be able to fit into the drawer of a hospital bedside table. Shoe boxes, craft or photo storage boxes (available at craft stores) are the correct size. The boxes should be painted with a design appropriate for a boy or girl under 18 years of age. If you plan to use a copyrighted design, please obtain permission from the artist.

Georgia Magarrell has been a Treasure Box Ambassador for Oregon since 2007.  Her Portland depot gives a minimum of 40 decorated boxes a year to the Shriners Hospital for Children - Portland, Oregon.  These boxes are painted by SDP Chapters all over the United States and mailed to Georgia if needed.  Her last shipment of four boxes came from Virginia.
